Arriving at Noi Bai airport in Hanoi, you’ll be met and driven to your hotel.
You’ll have time to relax after your journey before a ‘Welcome’ dinner at a restaurant in a restored French colonial building. In the evening, you’ll have tickets for a performance of traditional Water Puppetry, an art form unique to northern Vietnam, and a good, light-hearted introduction to its rural culture.
You’ll spend the night in Hanoi.
A morning drive takes you to Cuc Phuong National Park. You’ll be able to wander through a subtropical forest, rich in flora and fauna with thousand-year-old trees and dripping vines, visiting the Prehistory Cave. You’ll spend the night in the park.
The Endangered Primate Rescue Centre is a temporary home for many gibbons and langurs that have been injured, or been orphaned by poachers. Among them are two of the rarest species in the world, Delacourt’s Langur, now confined to two or three spots in north Vietnam, and the elegant Cat Ba Golden Langur, now reduced to a colony of around 50 individuals in Cat Ba Island National Park. Strenuous efforts are being made to conserve both species. When those in the rescue centre have regained their strength, a carefully staged programme will release them into the wild.
In the morning, you’ll be visiting the Endangered Primate Rescue Centre. After lunch, you’ll drive to Giao Xuan Commune at the Buffer Zone of Xuan Thuy National Park. Upon arrival, you’ll be met and arranged accommodation at a local family.
In the afternoon, you’ll pick up your bike for a short ride (7km each way) to the Bach Long Salt Field to experience the production of salt. The coastal community here has developed a technique for producing salt from the seawater. You’ll then return to have dinner stay the night with a local family.
Wake up early in the morning and take your bike to the fish market, see how people start a day and listen to the “sounds of the country life”. You’ll then have breakfast in the local style then leave village at 8.30 to the pier, where you can have a motor boat and spend whole morning to visit Xuan Thuy National Park, where you can watch migrant birds and some kinds of natural life in the Xuan Thuy Wetland reserve.
After the lunch, you’ll return to Hanoi for overnight accommodation.
Your morning will be free until your guide and driver arrive to take you to the airport for your flight to Ho Chi Minh City. When you arrive, a private car will be waiting to take you to your hotel in the city centre. After checking in, you’ll be free for a preliminary wander around District 1. Your overnight will be in Ho Chi Minh City.
Today, your driver will take you to Nam Cat Tien National Park. Mid-day arrival, cross the ferry at Dong Nai river to enter Cat Tien National park, which situated 150km/ 4 hour drive from Ho Chi Minh City, covers an area of 720 km² and protects one of the largest areas of lowland tropical rainforests left in Vietnam. In the afternoon, you will take the tour to the Botanic Garden Trails circumnavigate an area where the Chau Ma minority people once had a settlement before being moved to Talai after the American war. The path cut through a couple of areas of relatively primary forest, with a wide range of trees species; in more open ground gingers are in flower during June – September. The path can be excellent for birds and mammals including primates.
After dinner, a jeep car will take you through the forest to the grass land Nui Tuong, this is the opportunity to see the wild life, the guide will use a spot light to try and spot samba deer and wild boar feeding at night. There is always the chance to see: civets, fishing cats, loris, pangolin, gaur and nocturnal birds. You will spend the night at Nam Cat Tien National Park.
Today you’ll have full day tour to Crocodile lake. The 5-km walk through semi-evergreen forest to Crocodile Lake can be good for the near-endemic Germain’s Peacock-pheasant and Blue-rumped and Bar-bellied pittas while the beautiful Siamese Fireback can often be seen on an early morning drive to the start of the Crocodile Lake trail. Among the many other avian treats to be found at Cat Tien are Scaly-breasted Partridge, Woolly-necked Stork, Lesser Adjutant, a dozen species of woodpecker, three species of broadbill and the Indochinese-endemic Grey-faced Tit-Babbler. Pack lunch is provided for the tour.
Dinner and then spend the night in Nam Cat Tien.
In the early morning, at 5.00am, your tour guide will take you to see the sun rise and wild gibbon wake up looking for food until 7.30 am. Then, you will return to your lodge for breakfast.
After breakfast, you will leave the national park and return to Ho Chi Minh City.
Your time will be your own until your private car and driver arrives to take you to Tan Son Nhat airport for your departure flight.
