Classic Southern Vietnam 5 days

You are looking for a short tour and concern southern of Vietnam in 5 days, this is an itinerary for you. Starting in Ho Chi Minh city, you will explore the second largest city of Vietnam and visit Mekong River, to understand their local life and sceneries.

Arriving at Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh City, the tour guide is waiting for you and take you to your hotel. You’ll visit the Reunification Hall – an early colonial masterpiece constructed to accommodate the Governor – general of Indochina. You’ll also call in at the Jade Emperor Temple. It’s one of the best Taoist temples in Vietnam, with superb effigies, remarkable carved panels of the descent to Hell and somewhat incongruous terrapin and tortoise sanctuaries. Later, you wander around the huge Ben Thanh market, one of the liveliest areas of Ho Chi Minh City, is packed with every conceivable commodity.

In the evening, you may enjoy a performance of traditional Water Puppetry, an art form unique to northern Vietnam, and a good, light-hearted introduction to its rural culture. You’ll spend the night in Ho Chi Minh City.

A morning drive will take you to Tay Ninh, the home of the Cao Đài religion, to visit the Cao Dai Holy See in time to watch the mid-day ceremony. After lunch, you’ll visit the famous Cu Chi tunnels, a Byzantine maze of underground passages, chambers, rooms and booby traps used by both the Vietminh and the Viet Cong to suddenly materialise as if from nowhere, launch a lightning ambush, and vanish equally rapidly. You’ll spend the night in Ho Chi Minh City.

Escaping Ho Chi Minh City’s urban sprawl, you’ll travel to Vinh Long. There, you will visit the Vinh Long market in the town. This is the best choice for you to take pictures of fish, shrimps, prawns, crabs, snakes, rice-field rats, tropical fruits, vegetables...

A cruise will take you downstream on Mekong River seeing many floating cages for farming fish. Then, the first stop to visit the local workshop to see how to make rice paper, coconut candy, pop-rice... Enjoy some sweets with a cup of hot tea. The rowing boat will take you deeper into the countryside on smaller canals to enjoy the peaceful time. Then, we’ll walk to visit the orchard & traditional house of Ut Trinh family. Here, we will enjoy some kinds of fruits and tea, lunch can be served at this local house.

It will be so amazing to do cycling on village paths to see the daily life of the rural people: orchard, school, church, pagoda, traditional houses... On the way back to Vinh Long town, we can make one more stop to visit the brick kilns where you can see how the local people create beautiful potteries from clay.

You will stay at Can Tho for overnight stay.

Start at 6:00 am, we take the boat to Cai Rang Floating Market – the biggest wholesale floating market in the Mekong Delta. The Cai Rang Floating Market is well known for its variety of fresh fruits and other local products. Hundreds of boats still gather there to buy and sell every morning.

You come back hotel for breakfast and check out. Leave Can Tho to charming Sa Dec town, still has a lot of colonial architecture, in particular the old market, the church and many old villas and trader’s houses. You will visit one of them, a beautifully renovated traditional house of a Chinese trader’s family. This sumptuous building belonged to the main character of the famous novel “The Lover“, indeed the lover of its author Marguerite Duras. You will also visit the Trung Vuong primary school where famous novelist spent her childhood. You can see the busy and colourful local market and visit a nearby flower village with orchards.

Late in the afternoon, you move to Vinh Long for overnight stay.

After breakfast, your guide and driver transfer you back to Ho Chi Minh city. You have free time in Ho Chi Minh city until time leaving to Tan Son Nhat airport for your international departure flight.
